 Little Late

This month the newsletter is coming about a week or more late.  Sorry about that but I have not had my computer for the last month or so.  The computer that I had access to, I was not able to use it much.  So I just decided to wait until I got my computer back.  It is here and now I am working with it again.

Super Busy Month of July

Well the month of July was busy from the start.  Our campaign group arrived shortly after the beginning and, we had to find them places to stay before they got here which was a task.  The school started well.  We had many people sign-up for English Bible classes.  Many old friends came and studied with the teachers.
After the first week of the school, I started taking Hungarian classes at the university here.  It has been a pretty good course.  I have been learning a lot and I still have one more week left.
The English Bible School ended last Friday with a nice closing ceremony at the university’s auditorium.  Now all of the teachers are gone.  But it has been a great success.  We have many follow-up studies that we have already planned and many more people who we plan to contact or be contacted by.

The Church in Hungary

Good news in the church is that there is a new Christian.  Her name is Anita Kapusi.  She was studying in the school with one of the teachers and with Chuck and decided to commit herself to God.  Her address is below.
Something else that fits in this category this month is the upcoming campaign to Nyíregyháza.  We have already  started advertising for the school.  Several of the member of the church from around Hungary, including me, plan to go there and teach for two weeks, starting on August 17.  It looks to be a good outreach to for the Hungarian church.

Culture Corner

This month I decided that I would send another recipe to you.  I  had such good results from the first one a few months ago, I decided I would send another.  Also since,  I am so late this month with the newsletter, I thought it would not take a lot of time to put this here and plus you get to try a another taste of Hungary.  So this month you get another soup.  It is the famous sour cherry fruit soup.

Sour Cherry Fruit Soup
(Meggyes Gyümölcs leves)

16-17 ounces of  sour cherries
1-1.5 quarts of water
2 tablespoons sugar
5-6 cloves
a pinch of cinnamon
1 tablespoon of flour
about 2 tablespoon of  milk
1/2-1 cup of whipped cream
pinch of salt
little grated lemon peel or a slice of lemon
Put the cherries (pitted or not) into boiling water.  Also put the sugar, cloves, and cinnamon.  Then let boil for 3-5 minutes.  While it is boiling, mix in a cup (about one cup size) the flour with a 2 tablespoons water.  Then add the milk and the whipped cream.  Add more milk or whipped cream until the cup is full.  Put this into the soup and add the lemon peel and a pinch of salt.  Boil again for about 3-5 minutes.  After this take it off the heat and cool in the refrigerator.
Most people eat this cold. But some do like to eat it hot.  So you can try it both ways.  This is one of the best soups that they have here.  So I hope you enjoy it. You can even substitute other fruits for sour cherries.  Peaches, apples, pears, plums are all good in it, too.  You can also make a soup of mixed fruits.  Just use about the same amount of fruit in all of them.  Hope you enjoy the soup.  Jó Étvágyat!
